A Big Day For Ava

Today AVA discovered that she can hold her head up! She just woke up and realized that it was fun and exciting! Here is the first picture I was able to get of it...

Here she is pushing up on her arms a little bit

"OK Mommy, no more pictures!"

Just when I thought she was done for the day--

SHE ROLLED FROM HER TUMMY TO HER BACK!!!!!!!
Needless to say I am the proudest Mommy around :)
I was getting seriously worried that we might have some sort of developmental delay since she literally WOULD NOT lift her head off of the ground. Thank you AVA, you made Mommy and Daddy sooooooo happy!

SCGA

RIGHT NOW my amazingly talented hubby is WINNING the Southern California Golf Association Mid-Amateur golf championship. He's won this one once before, and has won the SCGA Amateur 3 times. He is sooooo cool! I so wish that I could be walking along the golf course-cheering him on but alas-someone has to watch the children! We have one of Scott's friends staying with us during the tournament and he is tied for 4Th place right now! Golf is seriously boring-UNLESS your love is playing and THEN is is seriously fun :)

SO both of my babies are alseep right now-this is very rare. Of course, I am at my Mom's house and not at my own so I can't get anything done during these quiet moments (well, at least I can blog!)

Yesterday AVA was on her tummy and sort of sat up on her arms a bit to lift her head up and look around-I CRIED when I saw this! I was just so excited that she is finally starting to make some progress in the noggin' department. All of her hair has fallen out on the back of her head and it drives me crazy because I swear all I do is hold her. Oh well, her beautiful face makes up for the lack of hair on the back of her head :O)

ADEN has learned that it is really fun to run up and down the couch. It scares me to death because I just know one of these days he is going to go flying off of the edge and land on the tile or something! We have started giving him TIMEOUTS!!! We put the red "timeout stool" in the corner and when we plop him on it he gets really excited and plays. He plays with his toes and says "stinky" while waving his hand in front of his face...this is NOT how timeouts are supposed to go. He doesn't really get it yet-but we are being consistent and sooner or later, he will understand that he's in trouble--we just hope it's SOONER rather than LATER. This HAS to work because we don't spank!

OK well that was a good update :) Happy Monday to you all!

Birthday Boy

Yesterday was my hubby's 40th birthday! The kids and I brought him lunch at work and then we had a little party with lots of alcohol at night! I didn't know that teachers could drink that much :) It was soooooo beautiful last night-no one wanted to hang out inside our house. Everyone gathered around the firepit for hours-it was great to finally put our beautiful backyard to good use. After most of Scott's people left we went in the hot tub with Emily and Mike and one other couple we are friends with. It was great-very hot! You've gotta love good margaritas and a hot tub! We were up until midnight and I was shocked. I seriously haven't been up that late in soooooo long. Sometimes I feel like I'm the 40 year old. Aden went to bed right at 8pm and Ava was asleep by 9pm--of course we used the trusty video monitor while we were outside :)

My friend's mom came out of surgery well and was discharged today. They will be flying home tomorrow for her to finish her recovery-thanks to all of you who prayed for her!

I feel like I have so much to write about and not enough energy to type it all. I need sleeeeeeep!

Jenn's mom

Right now my best friend's mom is at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota having major brain surgery. I feel so anxious. I've kept my phone next to me all morning, just waiting for a phone call. If you are reading this-please take a moment and pray for Julie. The surgery will take about 4 and a half hours and Jenn will call me when her mom is moved to ICU. This woman is my second mother. A few of my other friend's moms have cancer-it is so strange that things are happening to our moms. I guess that's what happens when you grow up-you realize that life is not always a fairytale.

The Reserve

Last night Scott and I went up to The Reserve to have a twilight dinner with the entire McGihon family and the club members in honor of Glenn, Scott's dad. Glenn is the golf pro at The Reserve. It was sooooooo nice to put on high heels and not wear a shirt that is covered in spit up. It was a great night-cut short by our little princess-who needed her mommy. Oh well!

This is a busy week. Scott is turning 40 on Friday! I can't believe how old he is, I love this man of mine LOL We have a family dinner on Wednesday and then a party on Friday-I have lots of cleaning and a few cakes to bake! Busy busy. Yesterday I went to the gym again...but Scott didn't go! Next time I guess :) I'm going to have to drag him there.

Ohh La La!

Today was Noelle's lingerie shower and let me tell you-the girl is going to look great on her honeymoon! I remember all of the lacey, racey things I recieved for my own lingerie shower almost five years ago. Hmm...I wonder where they all went?? Sorry Scott LOL

iRobot

I have to share something with everyone that has changed our lives...it's the iRobot ROOMBA! (that crazy round vacume cleaner). We borrowed a friend's for a day and we were hooked and ran to Bed Bath and Beyond that weekend to buy one. It does such a great job at cleaning our floors. We NEVER vacume...it does the floors all by itself. You can set a timer and it will turn on and clean your whole house while you are gone, then it will dock itself to charge again! Also, it comes with these little pods that act like a virtual wall and it can't pass (so you can set the pod in front of a door and it will clean that room but not pass through the doorway). Scott and I now lovingly refer to the iRobot as the "babysitter", as Aden follows it around the house the entire time it cleans-it's great! He crawls in front of it and then dives out of the way just before it "gets" him. It goes under the furniture, and from the carpet to hard surfaces--aaahhhhh--I just can't say enough wonderful things about it. Babysitter-I LOVE YOU!

6 hours

Last night I feel asleep with Ava at 8:30pm and we slept until 2:30am...that's 6 whole hours. I feel darn near giddy about it. I haven't gotten that much sleep in about 2 years. After that we nursed and then slept for another 2 and a half hours! Sleep is good. Sleep is great! Scott left at 5am to get ready for a golf tournament he is hosting this weekend so we won't be seeing much of him in these next couple of days :( That's OK, I know he needs some golfy time :) Tomorrow I am throwing my future sister-in-law's lingerie shower. My house is covered in pink Victoria's Secret bags and white candles-I love it! I have a few things I want to blog about but that will not be happening right now as my little one (pink little one, not blue) needs me!

The gym

On this lovely Saturday morning, I dragged my whole family to the gym! This was the first time that Scott and I have used our new memberships. The kids went to the childcare room. Ava sat in her seat smiling and cooing the entire time-what an angel! Aden threw his usual fit when we handed him over but he settled down after a while and played with the helpers and other children. I was done working out before Scott so I decided to join the kids in childcare and play with Aden, just to get him used to it. Of course right when I opened the door I saw him stand up and start screaming because he had remembered that we had "left him" again. Once he saw me he was fine. We snuggled for a minute and then he was right back to playing with the other kids. If only church could be like that! Aden cries at church in the nursery and then won't play with anyone/anything. He will just sit in someones arms, miserable until we come to save him. I know that sooner or later he will get over this whole separation anxiety thing, but for now it is very tough. Anyways, back to the gym...it was great! I loved working out again. I wasn't allowed to exercise through my entire pregnancy with Ava so I haven't really done much since after I had ADEN-it's been awhile! I definitely can't do the things that I used to do but I'll get there. I think that Scott liked it too-even though he pretends he doesn't. Once we get in the swing of things, he will love it! After the gym, we cleaned up and went to Terra Lago and had lunch before Scott had a meeting. Yummy! Ava slept the whole time :) Gotta love that girl! Hopefully we will make it to church this evening-if not then tomorrow morning and maybe Aden will settle down and be happy there-I'm always hopeful. Tomorrow is my "little" brother's 20th birthday-it's so weird. I can't believe he is 20 years old. It makes me feel that much older too! Happy Saturday

Ava's noggin

Today Ava saw her peditrician because I noticed that she has been slow to hold her head up. She has good control of it while she is up on my shoulder but she won't lift it even to a 45 degree angle when she is on her tummy, flat on the floor. The DR pretty much told me what we were all thinking, that she was born a little early and will need extra time to "catch up" and reach those milestones. Her head circumfrence and body composition are perfectly normal. Socially she is spot on, laughing, cooing, talking...so we will just be patient and try to give her extra tummy time each day. Oh how I love my lazy, little girl! She is sleeping much better at night, last night we only woke up to nurse two times. Aden is still in his room, sleeping all night like a big boy and I am still wishing he was in our room instead, but that will change eventually (I keep telling myself that). Yesterday Scott and I got gym memberships! I'm so excited and we got a GREAT deal from a friend of a friend so if anyone is interested, please let me know! The woman was so nice and it was a piece of cake. So that's all for now...here is a cute picture of Ava showing off her "head control" on my shoulder from a few days ago! The little thing is trying so hard and doing such a good job :)

Progress

Well...Aden has slept in his own room for three nights now. The first two, Scott was in the room with him, and last night was the first night we used the video monitor. I felt so reasurred knowing that I could just roll over and watch the little TV and see Aden peacfully sleeping in his crib. This thing is so sensitive that I can actually hear every breath he takes. I'm feeling a little better about it, I just miss him being close to me. Now we just have Ava in our room (can't give that one up just yet). One step closer to having a "child free" bedroom! Someday...someday :)
